The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is for someone who wants a short, wide cover screen and a 7.6-inch inner screen, and who can live without a telephoto camera, an S Pen, or a hinge that stays half open. Samsung's US page lists a book-style fold at 201 g and 4.5 mm unfolded, with a 4,800 mAh battery and One UI 9. Marques Brownlee calls the shape easy to open and the crease only partly hidden, and he says there is no Flex mode and no telephoto. The Tech Chap says the crease is basically a non-issue, the rating is IP48, and the hinge snaps open instead of holding an angle.

Recurring strengths and trade-offs
Marques Brownlee says the rear cameras are a 50 MP primary and a 50 MP ultrawide, with no telephoto, and that they are fine rather than the cameras he expects on a phone at this price. The Tech Chap says good light looks strong, then quality falls off past about 4x and in low light or with motion, because there is no dedicated telephoto.
Brownlee says the spring-loaded hinge has no halfway software mode, unlike the taller Ultra. The Tech Chap says Flex Window is missing, and that once the phone passes about 90 degrees the hinge pulls itself open, so it will not hold a desk angle for a video call.
What depends on needs and context
Brownlee calls the titanium flex hinge a B-plus at hiding the crease, not a crease that has gone. The Tech Chap says the crease is basically a non-issue.
Marques Brownlee says, from the first weeks, that the 4,800 mAh battery got him through a day even with a lot of inner-screen use. The Tech Chap's same-brightness Wi-Fi test, also from the first weeks, still had the Fold 8 ahead of the Fold 8 Ultra after four hours, but behind an HONOR Magic V6 with a much larger battery.
Decision checks
Samsung says the Galaxy Z Fold 8 does not support an S Pen and does not support Flex mode. The rating Samsung prints is IP48. Samsung describes that rating as enough water resistance for accidental spills, and a footnote describes a lab test of up to 1.5 meters of fresh water for up to 30 minutes. The Tech Chap says he already scratched the cover glass and that sand in the hinge is a real risk.
The lowest storage Samsung lists is 256 GB with 12 GB of memory. 1 TB is the only option Samsung pairs with 16 GB. Samsung's US FAQ says one nano-SIM plus an eSIM, and eSIM transfer depends on the carrier. On 5 Oct 2026 Samsung's US page listed the unlocked 256 GB model from $1,899.99 before trade-in. Samsung runs frequent sales, so check today's price in the retailer links.

Samsung sells the unlocked phone on its US site in 256 GB, 512 GB, and 1 TB. Colors listed there are Lavender, Graphite, Cream, and a Pistachio finish limited to Samsung.com and Samsung Experience Stores. Owner posts on that page start in August 2026. Check the Samsung store for your country rather than assuming the same colors and SIM setup everywhere.
Samsung says no. Galaxy Z Fold 8 does not support an S Pen.
Samsung rates it IP48 and says that covers accidental spills. A footnote on the US page describes a lab test of up to 1.5 meters of fresh water for up to 30 minutes, and says water resistance can fade with wear.
